The temper of aluminum alloy mainly refers to the cold and hot deformation processing state of the material, such as the degree of hardening after processing, casting method, heat treatment state, etc. 

Aluminum alloys in different temper have different properties and processing process routes. It is necessary to prepare a suitable processing process according to the temper of the aluminum alloy.

Code Temper Application
F Fabricated Applied to products without special requirements for work hardening and heat treatment conditions during the forming process, the mechanical properties of products in this state are not specified
O Annealed Applied to processed products that have undergone complete annealing to obtain the lowest strength.
H Strain Hardened Applied to products that increase strength through work hardening, the product can undergo (or may not undergo) additional heat treatment to reduce strength after work hardening. The H code must be followed by two or three Arabic numerals
W Solut heat trated Applied to alloys that undergo solution heat treatment and undergo natural aging at room temperature, this state code only indicates that the product is in the natural aging stage
T Heat treatment Applied to products that have reached a stable state through (or without) work hardening after heat treatment

 

 
Common Temper Detail of aluminum alloys  

 

Aluminum alloys are more suitable for improving strength through strain hardened. The common degrees and temper of hardening are as follows

 

Temper Hardening degree
H12 Work hardening to 25% hardness
H14 Work hardening to 50% hardness
H16 Work hardening to 75% hardness
H18 Work hardening to 100% hardness strain hardening to 100% hardness (fully hardened state)
H22 Partial annealing to 25% hardness after strain hardening
H24 Partial annealing to 50% hardness after strain hardening
H26 Partial annealing to 75% hardness after strain hardening
H28 Partial annealing to 100% hardness after strain hardening
